If your pet needs urgent or emergency medical treatment and you require financial assistance, please complete the emergency assistance application.
Before You Apply (Please Read Carefully)
- Service Area: Positive Tails is based in New York City and can only assist families living within the five boroughs of NYC.
- Medical Emergencies: If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, seek care immediately at the nearest veterinary hospital. For medical advice, please contact your veterinarian directly.
- Eligible Care: We fund emergency and treatable veterinary cases such as hit by car, urinary blockages, pyometra, etc
- Ineligible Care: We are unable to fund treatment for ongoing or chronic conditions, including cancer treatment.

How to Apply for Emergency Assistance
Step 1: Download the Application
Step 2: Submit Required Documents
Email your completed application to grants@positivetails.org, along with:
- Veterinary Estimate
- Proof of Financial Need (submit one of the following):
- Last year’s tax return
- W-2 form
- EBT card
- Proof of unemployment
- Social Security income documentation
- Worker’s compensation, disability income, or VA benefits letter
Bank statements are not accepted as proof of financial need.
Applications Will Not Be Considered If:
- Application must be filled out entirely, and all necessary materials listed on the application must be sent before the case can be considered.
- You have been approved for CareCredit and/or ScratchPay in excess of the estimated cost of treatment.
- You have other payment options available (family or friends, pet insurance, credit card, etc.).
- Your pet’s illness or injuries appear to be the result of animal abuse.
- The illness or injuries resulted from gross negligence or unnecessary surgical alteration (e.g., declawing cats, ear or tail cropping, debarking).
Review & Decision Process
Once your completed application and documents are received:
- Your application will be reviewed by the Positive Tails Granting Committee.
- The Committee determines approval or denial and the funding amount.
- All grants are subject to Board of Directors approval, availability of funds, and application guidelines.
