Spay & Neuter-a-Thon is Back!

In 2024 we organized NYC’s 1st ever spay & neuter-a-thon, and this November we are hoping to organize NYC’s biggest spay & neuter-a-thon yet. Last year, with the help of our partnering hospitals we provided 343 spays and neuters for NYC’s residents. With your help we can expand our reach even further this year. There is an undeniable lack of access to care for spay and neuter, and while politicians are finally waking up and taking action, it doesn’t come close to covering the immense need for these services.

The animals we work with are part of loving families and these families understand the medical and societal importance of spay and neuter. However, many simply cannot access affordable options to get this kind of healthcare for their companion animals. It’s a huge problem that no one group or hospital can tackle alone. Together, individuals, veterinarians, organizations and pet owners can come together to make a difference.

If you are a part of a vet practice and would like to join please email us at fixnyc@positivtails.org. If you are someone that has a relationship with a vet practice that you think would like to participate please send them our way. And if you are a business or group that would be interesting in sponsoring this event please also reach out to fixnyc@positivetails.org.

Do you know someone who could use this service? Ask them to fill out our application. Lastly, please consider a donation today, your donation means that more of these procedures can be done and that together we are creating a better future for NYC’s pet families!

Luna

Two pound Luna suffered an accident that resulted in her breaking her femoral bone, requiring surgical repair.

Her family rushed her to @cityveterinarycare. Orthopedic surgeries come with high price tags which was beyond what Luna’s person could afford. This was extremely difficult, as Luna and her companion human are devoted to each other.

In order to help get Luna the care she needed, the medical team reached out to @positivetails

Luna had her surgery with the amazing @cityveterinarycare team and was bearing weight on her leg within 24 hours. She is expected to make a full recovery and has a long and pain free life ahead of her…and your support made that possible.

Pop Up Clinic in LIC!

On June 7 we had our first clinic in Long Island City! We were lucky to partner with @licferalfeeders, who brought an amazing team of volunteers. Huge thanks to them and to @culturelablic for welcoming us at their amazing space. We can’t possibly thank everyone who made the day such a success, but without the veterinarians, techs, volunteers, animal behaviorists, groomers and more who donate their time, these clinics could not happen. And a huge thank you to everyone who brought their dogs and cats! We are so grateful to collaborate with medical professionals and community members to help animals lead healthier, happier lives!

Next Stop: Queens!

Our next pop up clinic is coming up this weekend and we’re going big – largest borough in NYC, that is!

We’re popping up in Queens in collaboration with our friends at LIC Feral Feeders.

We are scheduled to see 200 dogs and cats that call Queens home.
All attendees will get a consult with a veterinary team, vaccinations, other treatments as needed, referrals for follow up care including spay and neuter, training and behavior guidance, food and supplies, some grooming, and lots of doting.

Robin had a bone stuck in his throat!

Robin was suffering from vomiting, lethargy and decreased appetite, so his loving owner rushed him to VERG. No wonder he wasn’t feeling well- tests revealed he had a piece of oxtail bone stuck in his esophagus. Robin needed emergency surgery, but because of the cost, and the seriousness of his injury, his owner sadly had to contemplate euthanasia. Positive Tails was happy to help fund his surgery with the wonderful team at VERG, and while he’s still in the hospital, he’s on the road to recovery. Feel better soon Robin, and don’t bite off more than you can chew.

First Clinic of 2025!

Everyone, we did it. We got our first clinic of 2025 IN THE BOOKS and it a heart-warming day full of so many wonderful families, animals and volunteers. We moved into a new location for this one, thanks to our superstar partner @blueyorkcity who coordinated the space and helped us set up. We were also honored to welcome Bronx borough president Vanessa L. Gibson, who was very interested in learning more ways to engage resources into her community. Special thanks to everyone who came out and made it possible for us to see 140 ANIMALS IN ONE DAY!

Clinic in the Bronx, 9/28!

Thank you to everyone who made the clinic on 9/28 possible! We could not do any of this without our amazing volunteers, who arrive early, stay late, and work tirelessly to bring veterinary care to this underserved community.

We were able to treat 133 animals, and sign the majority up for spay/neuter surgeries. We’re thrilled about our partnership with Mission Helping Hand and Christ Church, which allows us to be a regular presence in this neighborhood.

Special thanks go to the medical professionals who donated their services, and our partners who help with supplies, behavior training, grooming services and so much more. We are extremely grateful! @missionhelpinghand, @liusheltermedclub, @bronxcommunitycats, @strongpawrescue, @cityveterinary, @gentlejourneyvetcare, @glendalevet, @allcreatures, @vergbrooklyn

We are grateful to everyone who participated and attended, and looking forward to visiting this location again soon!
